Libby was able to join me and we really enjoyed our time there. We both participated in the skillet toss and I got fourth place! We judged the photo contest and had the opportunity to model furs from Paprazzi Furs in Big Sky. I thought we were special for getting to wear our beautiful furs at the event, but then we got to model several more. We helped with the live auction and got to visit with some of the trappers. Good thing we left a day early, because we didn’t realize how much the speed limits slow down in Oregon, and we wanted to make a few pit stops on the way. Our first stop was in Spokane, where we stayed at the famous Davenport Hotel. When we got back on the road, we were headed for Portland, it took forever when you have to drive 65 on the interstate! Once we arrived, Gary the Garmin decided to quit working so we were in a situation like we were in Portland. Once we finally found the restaurant the rest of the girls were supposed to be at, we discovered they forgot to inform us of the restaurant change so on the road again we were. After 2 and half hours of driving around Portland, we finally found the Newport Bay Restaurant. So glad we did because the clam chowder was fantastic. The next day we started out our morning at a doughnut shop called Voodoo Doughnuts and I had maple stick with bacon on it! We then visited the Shiner's Children Hospital. Miss Rodeo Oregon rented a big 8 passenger van and drove us all around. Miss Rodeo North Dakota was really sick and decided to sleep in the car, rather than bring her germs into the hospital. When we were ready to leave, we discovered that Tiff accidently dropped the keys in between a plastic part of the van and the outside metal part of the van. After bustin a guy, and Ashley (MRO) about having a panick attack, we got the keys and was headed to our next stop of Tillamook, Oregon. Yes, its the Tillamook like the brand of cheese, we even got to see the Tillamook Cheese Factory and stay at a beach house on the ocean. On the drive to Pendleton we did alot of site seeing, including Multnomah Falls (the waterfall on TWILIGHT), along with several cool looking spots. It was the 100th year celebration for the Pendleton roundup and the rodeo was unreal. If any of you get the chance to go to Pendleton I would recommend going. It is so fun to watch the rodeo on grass and see how the tradition stays the same there. Unfortunately, I left Oregon with the worst cold in the world, I am blaming TIff for that.

Ellensburg

I headed to Ellensburg, Washington for the Miss Rodeo Washington Pageant and the Ellensburg Rodeo, it was quite the drive, but I got to finish my book on tape which was nice. Katie Garfield, Miss Rodeo Washington and Ashley Ziegler, Miss Rodeo Oregon were both there. I really enjoyed watching the pageant and getting to know the contestants. They even let me do a personal interview with the judges for practice. I was kind of nervous to at first, but in the end was very glad that I did. Throughout the week it was a pleasure getting to know Katie’s family in Yakima. They opened up their home to me and made us some very good meals. I have friends that live in Yakima, Dani, Ross & their son Caden, along with Sharon and Wally and they were all able to make it one performance. Thank you to Gary and Jody Rempel for letting me ride their horse Rainbow in the grand entry serpentine and the wall run.

Northwest Montana Fair & Rodeo

For my last Montana summer rodeo, I headed to Kalispell for the Northwest Montana Pro Rodeo, where I had the chance to work with the new royalty, Hannah, Katie, and Abby. He is one of my dad's favorite ropers so it was a real treat to show him this picture.

Missoula Stampede

The Miss Missoula Stampede Rodeo Pageant was going on along with the rodeo. I had the opportunity to emcee the horsemanship and the fashion show/ speech portion of the competition. It gave me some great practice for the Miss Rodeo and Miss Teen Rodeo Montana pageant this year coming up here in a few months. Congratulations to Jade, Tiffany, Bailey and Ashton. I hope to see them all at the fashion show in January. Missoula brought back horse racing this year, which was so fun to watch. I helped with a kiddie rodeo one of the 4H groups put on. This is Jacko the clown. It rained a ton while we were there and the Missoula Lake was formed in the arena. One of my favorite moments was in the barrel racing, when my cousin Whitney’s horse decided to try to jump the lake between barrels 1 and 2. She looked like she was shooting for the moon. My great aunt Elaine lives just 15 miles from there, so I was able to stay with her. The calf dressing is always my favorite event to watch, especially when you know people on each team. Tasha & Tessa Weifrich and Shea Anderson were all on a team and did a great job. I put on a kiddie rodeo at the local nursing home. Not very many kids showed up, but the ones that did had tons of fun. We didn't have bale to put the calf dummy head in, so we improvised and used a box. The residents really enjoyed it. I was even able to meet the Oldest Man in Montana. He is 107 years old and is as sharp as a tack!

Big Sky Pro Rodeo Roundup

It was so fun to be at the Big Sky Pro Rodeo, especially because I held the rodeo queen title there before. The committee was wonderful and I was given the royal treatment. The theme nights at each rodeo really added some jazz to the performances; military, family, TETWP, Pepsi, and Spirit. It was a Sankey Rodeo, and I had the opportunity to carry the American Flag during each grand entry. It is such an honor and rush to carry such a beautiful thing. The Montana State Fair always have great concerts and this year was no exception. My favorites were Styx , Clay Walker and Leanne Rimes.

Last Chance Stampede

The Last Chance Stampede was a total blast. It reminded me a lot of the Calgary Stampede. When rodeo queens think of Cheyenne they think of the famous “fly by.” Instead of doing a normal queen’s run around an arena, you run as fast as you can down a straight away of the racetrack. It was indescribable and the only two words I have to say are, “adrenaline rush.” Pete and Gerrie Corrneau opened up their home to Miss Rodeo Kansas, Danielle Dinges, and I. It was great getting to know Danielle along with Pete and Gerrie. During my few days at the “Daddy of Em All,” I was able to see the Aaron Tippen and Neal McCoy concerts and they both have so much energy! The parade in Cheyenne was the longest parade I have ever been in. My arm was very sore from waving by the end of it. Right before I had to catch my plane, we headed to the Cheyenne Indian Village. While, we were there they honored us and we got to learn how they dance. It is alot harder than it looks! We also attended the Cowgirls of the West Brunch and Fashion Show. I had the best conversation with my table. They were all great ladies. Sandy, sponsored my ticket to be at the brunch, and turns out she is Cody Buller's aunt. Because he is a bull rider from Montana, she likes to sponsor the Montana queen. :) Another hilight of Cheyenne is the pancake breakfast. It was so fun to be able to flip the pancakes. Good thing the pancake catchers are so good. Some of my flips were out of control.

Great Falls Voyagers

The Big Sky Pro Rodeo Roundup Committee asked if I could join them at the Great Falls Voyagers Baseball game to help promote their rodeo. They gave me the opportunity to meet the team and throw the first pitch. Even though I threw it from the mound to the base, I wish I would have practiced a little more. The Girl Scouts were also hosted that day, so I enjoyed the hula hoop contest and singing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” with them. While I was there I attended the Montana Pro Rodeo Hall and Wall of Fame Beef and Beans Dinner. This was a dinner that honored the high school scholarship recipients and me! There is nothing better than being at your hometown rodeo, it really makes a girl feel good. The Great Northern Rodeo was the biggest NRA rodeo in Montana this year. They had a huge payout and over 400 contestants signed up. Miss Indian Rodeo, Tiffany Sinclair is from Browning, Montana, and she was able to be in Havre as well. The Marias Fair and Rodeo is in Shelby, Montana, just 60 miles from my hometown. Even though I was so close to home, I didn’t make it home. However, my parents came to see me and brought my little basset hound Josette. It was Brookman rodeo so I got to hang out with Tasha and Tessa Wiefrich. From there we headed North to Calgary for the famous Calgary Stampede! Thanks to my dad, I got to sleep the entire way. It was amazing! Once we arrived in Calgary we really got to know the city, because we drove around it for 2 hours looking for our hotel. I wish I would have realized that Gary the Garmin (my gps) didn't work in Canada before we left. It was quite the adventure. We jumped on the local Calgary transit and headed to the Stampede grounds. With a million different foods to choose from, my parents and I literally stuffed our faces. Our long time friend, Les from Foremost, AB told us that his friend was one of the chaperones for the Indian Queens. We met up with her and were so glad that we did! During the chuckwagon races we got to stand right on the rail. I literally had mud in my mouth. It was my first chuckwagon experience and it was AWESOME! We stayed for the Grand Stand Show and it was outstanding. The fireworks were absolutely beautiful! The next day was my "host" day. I could only bring along one chaperone, so we left my dad behind. A bunch of other local rodeo courts and I started the day at the Queen's Alumni Pancake Breakfast where we signed several autographs and got to know each other. Our next stop was downtown, where I learned to square dance! My Grandpa and Grandma Han were avid square dancers so it was really fun to learn something they really enjoyed. We stopped at a few more get together's and introduced ourselves and then it was rodeo time!! Can anybody say rain? I didn't know that it could rain as hard as it did during the rodeo. Lucky for the queens, we were able to huddle underneath the stage and still enjoy the rodeo. Unfortunately, we had to cut the trip short and head home after the rodeo. My sister, Bridjour was flying to Australia the next day for basketball and we wanted to see her off. Even though we were only there for a night it was definately worth it! I for sure want to make it up there again.

Wild Horse Stampede

Well the title of this blog says it all, the Wild Horse Stampede was definately WILD! I had so much fun in Wolf Point. Megan Helmer and Vanessa Hardy were there and it is always nice to catch up with them. Thank you to Megan for letting me ride Honey Bucket and to Vanessa for hauling her into town for me. I started out the weekend with an interview on the radio with Aaron Flint on "Voices of Montana." A few of the committee members, the announcer, Randy Schmutz and the clown, Timber Tuckness were also there for the show. All three nights of the rodeo were awesome. Honey Bucket did a great job in the arena! Of course, the Wild Horse was the highlight of the rodeo. The teams went for a lot of money in the calcutta. I helped gather the bids horeback in the arena, which I don't get to do very often so I really enjoyed that. Some friends from Lambert were able to make it to the rodeo. It is so fun to know someone in the stands. I can't forget to mention the famous Catholic Burger! I must say I did have a few when I was in Wolf Point, mmmmm mmmmm so delicious!

Cowboy Christmas!!

The first week in July was a busy one for me. I headed to Cody, Wyoming for the Cody Stampede. I could only be there for two days, but they took such great care of me there and really made me feel welcome. The next morning we had breakfast with the rodeo committee and contract personal. It seems like all we ever do is eat! After breakfast we were invovled in a local radio interview, I only said a few words, but feel like I represented our Montana cowboys well! Later that day we were treated to a trolley ride of Cody. The trolley was packed with people. They asked lots of questions about the rodeo and rodeo queening. I met people from all over the world while in Cody. From Cody I headed to Red Lodge for the Home of Champions Rodeo. Each day, the local royalty and I were in the parade. It got bigger and better each day. I put on a kiddie rodeo and met a family from Rhode Island. They were very interested in rodeo and asked me how they could help the cowboys financially. I talked to them about the Justin Cowboys Crisis Fund and are serioulsy considering. I am anxious to see what they do. I had never been to Red Lodge before and the number of people at the rodeo was amazing! The best of the best cowboys and cowgirls were there and that definately spices things up. My mom came along with me and we had alot of fun shopping. The last weekend in June, I headed to Augusta for the "Wildest One Day Rodeo in the West." I started the day off with an autograph session and shopping spree at Latigo and Lace. What a cute store! I took a ton of pictures and signed many autographs. Virgil Hershberger was there and treated me with a beautiful bracelet. After Latigo and Lace, I headed over to the rodeo grounds. Thanks to Sue and Bailey Jo Thompson for hauling their perfect mare, Lily for me to ride. I just love that horse!! Tesla, Miss Big Sky Pro Rodeo and Crystal BSPR Princess also attended the rodeo. I was honored to carry the American Flag in the grand entry, as the other girls brought in Montana and American Legion. We helped clear the arena during steer wrestlinng and tie down roping. Brent Jordan gave me some great recognition throughout the rodeo, thanks so much for that. After the saddle bronc I headed back into the arena to throw the prize winning tennis balls and I was actually able to throw them up there pretty high :) The grandstands were packed as usual in Augusta ,which is one reason they call it "The Wildest One Day Rodeo in the West." The Rocky Mountain Photography Class was there, and I truley felt like a celebrity with paparazzi following me. It was definately fun for a day! Overall the Augusta Rodeo was a total blast! You must experience it!

Bear Paw Roundup/Rudyard Centennial

What a week it was up on the Hi-Line. The Bear Paw Roundup was going on in Chinook and the town of Rudyard was celebrating it's 100th birthday. Of course I wanted to be at both events and we made it happen. It was so nice to be back in Chinook for the Bear Paw Roundup! Last year as Miss Big Sky Pro Rodeo I had the opportunity to help with the rodeo and had a blast. The rodeo was even better this year. Libby and I headed down on Thursday for the Silver Spurs Dinner. We got to meet several of the rodeo committee members along with some of the Silver Spur members. Shane Schwenke provided us with Louie and Scooter for the grand entry and to carry sponsor flags through out the rodeo. What great steeds they were! Friday night, Libby and I put on a stick horse rodeo in front of the grandstands and quite a few kids showed up. They all wanted to learn how to rope and they all caught on really quick! The number of rodeo fans at Friday nights performance was outstanding and that really makes the rodeo! After the rodeo, Libby and I headed to Rudyard so we could be in the Rudyard Centennial Parade Saturday morning. We got to ride in a silver mustang and actually throw candy! It was the longest parade our little town has ever had. A whole 15 minutes!! We then headed over to the beard contest where my dad was in the running for "best beard". He WON the contest! It was a pretty cool achievement considering he has been growing it out since last August. Next was "Fashions Through the Century" style show that my mom was putting on. The clothing was a hoot and it is amazing what is coming back these days. I signed some autographs and enjoyed some cake on old luncheon plates from the 60's. Several other activities went on throughout the town that day. We had to head back to Chinook for the rodeo and missed the toilet races, but heard they were quite the entertainment! Saturday nights performance in Chinook was just as good as the night before. I was so happy that I could be two places at once!

Little Belt Cowboys Rodeo

Once I arrived home from Nebraska it was Belt Rodeo time. I thought for sure it was going to rain atleast one day. We were lucky and the rain clouds went right around. :) Clancy and Lauri Sivertson provided me a horse. His name is Doc and I had the privledge to ride him last year as Miss Big Sky Pro Rodeo. Libby was able to join me at this rodeo and per usual we had alot of fun together. Tesla McDowel and Crystal Hamilton, the Big Sky Royalty were able to be there as well. It really is "the more the merrier" when it comes to having lots of royalty around. It was the 50th year for the Little Belt Cowboys Rodeo and what a celebration it was. The stands were full during both performances, the stock from Brookman rodeo was fantastic, JJ Harrison was the clown, and Barney Sheridan was the announcer. Just look at the pictures and you will know why! HAHA. Sunday morning, we all were in the parade and then went on to put on a stick horse rodeo. We didn't have very many kids, but the ones who did come were a hoot. I had the honor to carry the American Flag, which always feels sooo good, as well as clear the arena during the the steer wrestling and tie down roping. Linda and Lorissa Harris were able to make it to the rodeo, along with Janie and Jennika O'Neil. They are always so fun to be around. All in the all the Belt Rodeo was an absolute blast! Both my parents, along with Libby's were in attendance too. It was for sure a family affair! Thank you sooo soo much to Dan and Pam Wright for having me in their beautiful home. It may have been the most comfortable bed ever! I flew out of Great Falls to Denver and from Denver flew right into North Platte. Measha Gittens (Miss Rodeo Idaho) and Chris Wade (Miss Rodeo Utah) had the same flight into North Platte. It is so nice to run into someone you know when in an airport. When we arrived in Nebraska, we headed straight to the Buffalo Bill Arena to meet up with the rest of the girls and enjoy the first dinner of the Miss Rodeo Nebraska Pageant. During the dinner, we helped show off the great auction items. When everyone started to clear out the state queens and the contestants participated in relays. My team included Colorado, Idaho, South Dakota, and Florida. We did the rescue race, bubble gum chewing, and the egg run. What a blast we had!! The rest of the week consisted of a kiddie parade, several autograph sessions and lots of coffee. We made time to visit Buffalo Bill's house and the Golden Spike. When I was there they had a few tornado watches and I must say I was a bit nervous. Measha was too. We thought sticking together would have made the nerves go away. I think we just made each other worse. During the rodeo the crowd was stomping on the bleachers and we thought it had something to do with a tornado, and during the bull riding they played a siren sound and that freaked us out too. I was so worried about a tornado in Nebraska and 2 days after I arrive home, the whirlwind went through Billings. I guess we have to be ready for everyting no matter where we live right?

Eagle Mount Western Rendevous

On June 12th, I was invited to the Eagle Mount of Bozeman's Western Rendevous. Some of the kid's showed their appreciation that I could be there on the sidewalk with chalk! Later in the evening was the banquet and dance portion of the rendevous. They had a band, a silent auction and great food. To kick off the party, a few local girls danced to Miley Cyrus's Hoedown Throwdown. The contestants had their personal interviews and written test in the morning. We then had a nice lunch with the contestants, their parents and the judges. It was nice to get to chat with the judges. They all came from different parts of our state and were involved in rodeo in different ways. After lunch was the horsemanship competition, where Libby and I got to emcee. What a great idea it was to have this clinic. Thank you to Linda Rest for making it happen. We held the clinic at Harrison Livestock outside of Belt and the facility was amazing!!! Clinicians included Linda Rest, Laura Bakker, Bobbi Levine, Jody Rempel and Ray Scribner. We did everything from horsemanship, to carrying flags, queen's run practice and was even able to work with cattle! It was such great practice for when we are asked to clear the arena at rodeo's. I was so glad that I went. It was held in the mornings before the JS rodeo, so when I got to the rodeo I was prepared for anything! Also, a big thanks to Janie O'Neil for keeping us well fed.

Summer Solstice

What a great way to start off the Montana rodeo season, but with the JS Rodeo Summer Solstice in Vaughn. A big thanks to Kenny Carpenter and his family for letting me use his pickup horse, Dude in the grand entry, and also to Sue and Bailey Jo Thompson, for letting me use Lily to carry sponsor flags. I was a Girl's State delegate when I was in high school and my sister, Bridjour was selected this year! I was in Billings the day before, so I had plenty of time to rehearse my speech on the drive to Helena the next day. I must say, I was a bit nervous for this speech. I had talked with elementary school kids, but that would be the first time talking with a high school group. Now I wonder why I was so nervous, because the girls were AWESOME! I felt like they really listened to what I had to say and were full of questions at the end. We took several pictures together and I signed lots of autographs! Stay tuned for pictures, they are on Bridjour's camera and she is just about as busy as I am this summer.

Big Sandy 3rd Grade

Miss Heather Wolery called me and asked if I would be able to stop by her 3rd grade classroom in Big Sandy and read to her class. I signed some autographs and became artwork on their lockers. I also found out one the girls was running for O-mok-see princess! I am totally inspired by the athletes of Montana and the people involved with Montana Special Olympics. There is absolutely no way that anyone could go there and volunteer and not enjoy themselves. The athletes were so grateful to have me there to hand them their shiny medals. Wednesday was the first day and I headed over to help with the awards for softball throw and tennis ball throw. The weather did not want to cooperate and by 1230 when it was time for me to head over to the gymnastics portion, I looked like a wet dog (thank goodness I

had my outdoor hat in the pickup rather than my Jimmy hat!!) Even though everyone was freezing, the athletes stuck with it, which I thought was awesome. After that I went over to the North Gym, switched hats, pulled my hair back and went to the exciting event. Miss Montana America was there, Britney Wiser, and we really hit it off. I hope to spend some more time with her before she hands off her title. Both Britney and I were invited to the VIP reception held before the opening ceremonies that night. I had just enough time to run home, recurl my hair and get back to the festivities. I am so glad I went!! The opening ceremonies was SO COOL. They had high school pep bands playing, dance teams dancing and EVERYONE was cheering! They had some great presentations, I cried during one of them. Thursday was the equestrian portion and I was really excited for that. When I arrived at the arena several events were going on. Working trail outside and equitation inside. After all was over, I helped the law enforcement with the awards. Thursday night was the dance/carnival and WOW what an event it was! The band was awesome, the prizes they had were spectacular and there was a huge line at the table they had set up for me to sign autographs for the whole 3 hours. I am glad I brought a bunch of autograph sheets. I think I signed 300 or more! The next morning was the closing ceremonies. The Havre teams were there and I was able to sit with them during the presentation. They were drawing for the Chevy pickup along with other prizes, I was crossing my fingers all morning hoping they would draw my name for something. They sold over 67,000 tickets!!!!! After the closing ceremonies we all headed over to the track. There, I again helped the law enforcement with awards. They had 3 award stands set up so the events went by really fast. The weather was fantastic and I have quite the "hand" tan now. Overall, my days at the special olympics were amazing. Everyone was so glad that I could make it and I am so glad I went!! Thank you to Linda Rest and Lucille Hill for setting this awesome appearance up for me. I had never been to an indoor arena football game so I was very excited for the event. I just might be hooked! The outlaws were playing the Fairbanks Grizzlies. During the pregame I had the chance to meet some of the players and got to see what all happens behind the scenes of the game. When it was time for me to flip the coin, I was introduced and walked out with one of the officials. Luckily, the coin was pretty big and I just had to toss it in the air, rather than flipping it like a quarter. I even got to KEEP the coin! My friend Lorissa and I were able to watch the game from the VIP section, we were so close to the field, Lorissa was almost hit by a tumbling player!! At half time I headed up to the main concourse where I signed several autograps, including a kid's forehead. After the first half, we were able to sit right behind the team. That was REALLY cool. We were able to hear what the coaches were saying to the players. A big thanks to Alyssa Hadley, Miss Northwest Montana Pro Rodeo queen and her family for opening up their home to me. When I first arrived I met with the board of directors and current royalty, Alyssa Hadley is Queen and Savannah Gentry is Little Miss, Hannah Davis the princess was unable to attend, for some tasty pizza at McKenzie River. It was great to get to know them and talk about what was going to go on at the clinic. The next morning we headed to the fairground for the clinic. What a great turn out there was! Several princess contestants and quite a few Little Miss contestants! Alyssa and Savannah, along with the board of directors did such a great job getting people with expertise in public speaking, hair & makeup, interview and horsemanship to come in and visit with all of the girls. I am so excited to see how the pageant goes starting in June. I wish all of the contestants the best of luck and cannot wait to work with them at the Northwest Montana Pro Rodeo held in Kalispell in August.

Northwest Montana Pageant

Chairman Mike Twillman

Dodge National Circuit Finals

Hey Everyone,

It has been a few weeks since I have updated so I have alot to catch you up on! Monday, April 5th I hit the road to Pocatello, Idaho for the Dodge National Circuit Finals. I was so excited for the rodeo, I had never been to the DNCFR, but always heard how fun the event was. Also, I was pretty pumped that I was one of the state queens selected to go this year. As I said before I had never been to Pocatello before so I decided to leave a day early, and boy was I glad I did! Monday night they had a huge snowstorm! Some of the girls flights were delayed and it took some almost double the hours driving. My mom came to Pocatello to watch the rodeo and she ran into the storm too! My roommates were Miss Rodeo South Dakota, Nebraska and Wyoming. We had so much fun together!! The DNCFR committee members took very good care of us. They provided us with a hotel room, food, transportation and anythiing we needed. Mr. Stan Cope was my van driver and he was so fun. We had several places to be during the week, so instead of all of us going to one place we were separated into vans and we went where our van took us. The system worked great. Tuesday was when the fun began. The first thing on the agenda was the DNCFR Kick off party at the Holiday Inn. What a great turnout! They had it poolside where everyone mingled, enjoyed appetizers and drinks and visited. The rest of the girls, along with the committee members for the Dodge Finals and I were introduced. The next morning we were up bright and early so we could head over to Holt Arena for rodeo rehearsal. We got the chance to get to know the horses they provided for us to ride and took some pictures with kids on school tours. Shane, a leather repair man, and big help with the DNCFR gifted us a personalized flag boot with our name and year on it so we didn't have any flag safety issues. They are SO COOL!! After the rehearsal we headed to the hospital where we visted the pediatric unit and the rehabilitation unit along with the LIFE FLIGHT helicopter! Both the kids and the rehab patients enjoyed our company. The pilot fo the Life Flight helicopter explained how everything worked and what would go on in certain situations. I was enthralled being a nursing major :) The local TV and newspaper followed us around the hospital and I was even picked to be interviewed, and I was very proud! That night was the first performance of the rodeo. There were 18 state queens, but only 10 horses so we were split into two groups. Group 1 would ride Wednesday & Thursday night and Saturday afternoon and group 2 would ride Friday & Saturday night. I was in group 2 so during the perfs that I didn't ride I walked around the rodeo and sold programs, signed autograph sheets, helped the kiddos with muttin bustin and chatted with several people. Thursday was another early morning and my van started off with a school visit. We went to Ellis Elementary, where I spoke to three 2nd grade classes. I only had to talk for about 5 minutes because the other 40 minutes was filled with great questions. They were so well behaved and were really interested in rodeo. I love to see that! After the school visit we went to visit a sponsor, Idaho Unlimited, where they treated us to a coffee/latte/italian soda of our choice. It was just what I needed to wake up. We then had a few hours to rest before we went to Texas Roadhouse, another big sponsor, for dinner. YUM! Then it was off to the second performance of the rodeo. Friday morning, my van and Kelli (Miss Rodeo America) headed over to Idaho Falls for a radio interview. We were on the live webcam so it was a mix between a radio and a tv interview. After that we were invited to visit the Golden Valley Jerky Plant. Mr. Hal Hawkins has been invovled with the Miss Rodeo America program and he works with the business. We didn't have enough time for a full tour through the plant, but did get the chance to visit with some of the people who make it all happen and try some samples. We headed back to Pocatello for lunch at another sponsor, Butterburs and then signed a few autographs at the local credit union. We had a 3 hour break before it was time to head over to Holt Arena for the third performance. We all squeezed in a nice nap . :) It was my turn to ride in the rodeo and I was so excited. They gave me the Montana Silversmiths Flag and I thought it was pretty cool to carry it. Saturday morning was the Exceptional Rodeo where 45 kids came to learn about rodeo. They told me to be ready for anything. South Dakota rode him in the first group and had some trouble with him spooking at everything, not staying close to the fence, and ducking half way down the arena, so I was ready for anything. Friday night, I was going to get him next to the fence and show him who was boss....I moved him a little closer but we still cut off a quarter of the arena. Saturday night I knew what to do differently to keep him close to the fence and all the way around the arena. Well.....I had him nice and close to the fence when he decides to hunch up and start bucking...I ended up dropping the flag, but I STAYED ON!! haha. It could have been much much worse, but was just one of those things that horses decide to do. The saddle guys who work for Sutton's were glad I didn't fall off too or they would have owed me 50 bucks. Overall, the DNCFR was such a great experience. The Knights did a great job! After I spent the weekend with my family I headed to the BEAUTIFUL town of Whitefish. First of all, what a fabulous group of athletes we have involved with Special Olympics in Montana! Once I arrived in Whitefish I headed right to the parade. Annie Anseth, Miss Montana, was there and it was so nice to meet and get to know her. A dealership in Kalispell provided vehicles for Annie and me to ride in for the parade. Annie was given a camaro and I got to ride in a fully loaded Cadillac with a sun roof. I must say I had a great time hanging out the top of the car in the parade.

After the parade we went to the opening ceremonies. Tuesday, February 22, 2010 was National Pancake Day. The International House of Pancakes in Kalispell and Glen Newhart with the Children's Miracle Network invited me to help them out this year. National Pancake Day was a fundraiser for the Children's Miracle Network, specifically for the Shodair hospital here in Helena, Montana. The offer was a free short stack if they donated to the children's hospital. Lots of people took up the offer, but some ordered other food off the menu. My job was to greet and visit with the customers, flip some pancakes and serve some pancakes. They even gave me my own apron. :) The staff at the IHOP were so friendly and were very patient with me. I have never worked in a restaurant and what an experience it was.

NRA Finals

First of all, what a great job Ty Yost did putting on the Northern Rodeo Association Finals. Thursday was the first day of events for me. I started by doing a school visits at West Elementary School in Laurel and Hanna Heckman (Miss Montana High School Rodeo), Ben Clements (rodeo announcer) and Scott Cameron (rodeo clown) joined me and I was so thankful for that. I was a bit nervous for my first school and they made it very easy for me. We put on a stick horse rodeo, signed some autographs and talked about making good choices. The kids were so fun and loved participating in the events. That night was the first performance of the rodeo. Libby and I helped carry sponsor flags on our trusty steeds, Jack and Strawberry.

Friday morning, Jessica, a MaryKay consultant came over and helped Libby and I with out makeup, then we headed to the MATE to sign autographs as the Stockton Oil and Nutrilix booths (2 big sponsors for the NRA rodeo). We got their autographs and gave them ours too!

Saturday, we got up in the morning and went out to thank some sponsors for Miss Rodeo Montana. Lou Tauberts was our first stop, Anita was out of the store but hopefully I will catch her next time I am in Billings. Our second stop was Hippie Cowgirl where we found out she would sponsor a pair of Ferrinni boots of our choice. Let me tell you, Libby and I flipped through that magazine a bazillion times before we made a decision. After visiting the sponsors, we did a live radio remote at Lithia Dodge. Some of the NRA contestants and directors were able to make it, which gave the people listening an insight on what happens on both ends of the arena. Saturday was the final round for the NRA rodeo and what a rowdy rodeo it was. My experience at the NRA rodeo was a very positive one!

Happy Trails,

Jourdon

Go Knights!

After the NRA Finals, I was given the opportunity to visit North Star Highschool. The school that I graduated from. Grades 1st through 6th invited me to read to them for "I Love to Read Month." The kids are so funny, even though most of them remember me from high school sports, the completely different outfit threw some of them off. Some didn't believe that I was Miss Rodeo Montana and some were telling their fellow classmates, "I know that girl, she played basketball," or my favorite "Mrs Kline is the luckiest lady in the world because that's her neice." What a hoot little kids can be. Another kid walked up to me and said, "I'm a cowboy and I ride sheep." It was so nice to see some of my teachers that I hadn't seen since I graduated in 2007. Luckily, I had lots of autograph sheets, they were a huge hit with the North Star Knights.

Let's Rodeo San Antonio!

Hola!

I just got back from San Antonio, Texas and did I enjoy myself? Yes! Yes I did. Even though it wasn't as cold as Montana can be when I left, it was so nice to go to warm weather in Texas. However, the first night I got there, the temperature went down to 33 degrees. Everyone kept telling me "you brought this weather with you!" Luckily, the rest of the trip was nice with temperatures between 60 and 70 degrees. OnceI arrived in San Antone, the lady hosting me was ready to pick me up. Her name is Julie Kallison and she is a fantastic woman! She chauffered me around to where ever I wanted and always had me to where I needed to be on time. I know that Julie and I will be friends for a long time. Just as I arrived, Miss Rodeo Colorado was leaving, I was able to meet her but didn't get to chat long. What a pleasure it was to meet Miss Rodeo Texas, Devin Felger. We have so much in common that it made the trip absolutely wonderful. The San Antonio Stock Show is huge and they have several committees, no matter what committee we were working with they treated me as if I was on the red carpet! Devin took me downtown where we had lunch on the river walk and I was able to see the Alamo. SO COOL!!

The San Antonio Rodeo is like a mini Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. They hold it in the AT&T Center so it has the big indoor feeling. I wasn't able to ride in the rodeo, but was given access to watch from one of the "Super Boxes" which was awesome, along with helping with the muttin bustin. The kids came from all over Texas to compete in the sheep riding. Before we would walk them into the arena they would chant, "Your going down sheep!" and would tell each rough stock cowboy good job or good luck. Jesse Kruse was competing in the saddle bronc and Sean Case was competing in the bull riding, Gary Rempel was picking up for Calgary Stampede Rodeo and the Kesler's had stock bucking one of the nights too. It is so nice to see some fellow Montanan's when away from home. After each rodeo, Devin and I along with some of the cowboys and bull fighters signed autographs. The people in Texas love autographs, I signed 300 autograph sheets in 3 days and literally came home with zero. During the day, Devin and I spoke to small groups about how important sponsors and scholarships are. One day we were walking through the carnival area and a group of people from a TV show wanted us to say a few things for their show. Turns out the TV station was a spanish station and I don't speak much spanish. Luckily, it was only 2 sentences; "Yo soy Jourdon Han Miss Rodeo Montana" I am Jourdon Han Miss Rodeo Montana and "Vamos el rodeo San Antonio" Let's rodeo San Antonio. It took me a few takes, but oh well! That day I must have had "put me on TV" written on my forehead. That night a producer asked if I would do a pitch for a commercial they are doing to encourage soldiers to have their accomplishments published in local newspapers. I was happy to do it and hopefully will get to see the commercial on TV some day, cross your fingers. They kept us pretty busy while in Texas, but that didn't keep me from shopping during my free time! They had some great booths down there and I found some really cute boots and jewelry. How could I forget! Devin met Gabriel Igleasis (the comedian) marketing director in her hotel and he invited us to meet Gabriel and see the tour bus. We ended up missing Gabriel by a few minutes, but did get to take some pictures with the bus. Lance, the marketimg director is good friends with Toby Keith and was able to set up a meet and greet for Devin to meet him. I was leaving that day so I missed out on that opportunity, but he said if Toby was ever in the Montana area he would set something up :)

I am in Billings for the NRA Finals the rest of the week. Sounds like my days will be filled with school visits, radio interviews and rodeo. Stay tuned for more info!

Adios

Outdoor Show/Cowboy Hall of Fame

Hey Everyone,

I had another very successful weekend! Saturday morning I headed to Great Falls to represent the Montana Fur Trappers at the Great Rockies Sport Show held at the Four Seasons. It is so amazing how they can turn that building from one thing to another in no time. Libby was able to join me and we, as usual, had a great time together. When we first got to the show, the Real Hunting magazine guys snagged us for another picture and are going to put it in their next issue. I kept hearing people say, "let's go see the bears." Well the first thing I thought of was they must have stuffed bears somewhere, well come to find out they had REAL bears in the building. Libby and I were able to catch a show. The bears seemed pretty lazy, I would be too if someone woke me up from hibernating. My favorite bear was named "Andy" and he was the biggest and could ride a scooter. For treats, the trainer would give him skittles and he was sure to let them know he was not going without his treat. Libby and I were a little nervous wearing a furs and decided that if something were to happen and the bears got loose we would ditch the fur so we didn't look like food.. just kidding fur trappers :) I would NEVER ditch my beautiful fur!! We saw some of the same people from the outdoor show the weekend before. The Speed Goat Decoy boys were there and gave us antelope heads and shirts this week. Libby and I love our antelope heads, my dog Josie doesn't. She runs when I put it on.
After our visit with the fur trappers, we headed to Lewistown for the Cowboy Hall of Fame "Circle of Wagons." We sold raffle tickets and heads and tails tickets, showed off the live auction items and had a great time socializing with everyone. The staff at the Yogo Inn in Lewistown were absolutely wonderful. Libby and I were looking for a place to get ready and they gave us a private hotel room to freshen up. Not all hotels will do that! A big thanks goes out to Jack and Kristi Stensland for inviting us to the Cowboy Hall of Fame banquet. What a success it was. After the banquet the Gill's invited me to stay in their home again. I just love it their and love staying with them. Sunday, Kate (my new national director) and I were able to meet up and talk about my year. Friday, January 29th we headed to Lewistown for the Winter Fair. Terry and Joan Gill (friends of the Gurnetts) welcomed us to stay at their BEAUTIFUL home. I felt so comfortable and Joan is a spectacular cook!

Saturday morning, we got up and headed to the fairgrounds for the stick horse rodeo. We had heard that over 60 kids participated last year and we were ready. Well 58 came this year, and let me tell you, the Judith Basin Backcountry Horseman know how to put on a kiddie rodeo. It was so organized and they had great prizes. First, Libby and I greeted the families and watched the kids warm up their horses...I think they could have ran in circles all day. Some kids are latched to their parents during kiddie rodeos, not in Lewistown, everyone of them wanted to be involved and gave it their all. The first part of the rodeo was to crown the Prince and Princess, they would lead each event, we did the grand entry and everyone recited the pledge. Each kid took part in 4 events, steer wrestling (tip over the bale) calf roping, barrel racing and an event new to me, wild cow milking!

I had never seen that in a kiddie rodeo, but I think I might steal the idea for the stick horse rodeo I am going to have at my Coronation Ball. After the rodeo, we were treated to lunch. I was on a time schedule to get to Billings for the Montana Pro Rodeo Hall and Wall of Fame Banquet, but Libby was able to stay a few more hours and finish our duties at the Winter Fair. I arrived in Billings at around 3:30 and needed to be ready for the Banquet by 4:00. I really do think it was a test to see how fast I could get the dirt out of my nose and ears and into my dress and fur, I did pass that test. Phew! I envy the members of the Montana Pro Rodeo Hall and Wall of Fame. They sold over 500 tickets, had great live and silent auction items, great food and great music...overall a great party. I was so happy that my Mom and Dad were able to make the event. Libby and I were very involved with the banquet, we helped with "heads and tails," paraded the live auction items and escorted the inductees and award winners. Brent Jordan and Justin Mills gave us a wonderful introduction and mentioned that we were there several times. A BIG thanks goes out to Lucille Hill for including us in the celebration. I met more people in 4 hours than I have in a long time, even legends of rodeo I didn't expect to be there, including Benny Reynolds, Jonnie Jonckowski, Allen Pursely, Don & Dan Mortenson, Shawn Davis, Deb Greenough, Rod Lyman, Jesse Kruse and the list goes on. Another spectacular person I was able to meet was the FIRST Miss Rodeo Montana! Some people call her the Queen of Montana, as do I is Barbarba Bernideau Wilson. What a classy lady, we had a great conversation and come to find out we have alot in common. I am so honored that I was able to be apart of such an event.

Libby & I with Dan Mortenson

Queen of Montana Barbara
Jonnie Jonckowski

Too-da-loo

Howdy-Do Friends

My name is Jourdon Han and I am the 21 year old daughter of Don and Jaye Dee Han of Rudyard. During the Montana Pro Rodeo Circuit Finals I was crowned Miss Rodeo Montana 2010, a goal I have set for myself since I was a little girl. I have put my nursing degree at Montana State University on hold, while I travel to represent Montana and the western lifestyle not only in Big Sky country, but also to our entire nation and Canada. What a unique opportunity to meet new people from every walk of life and promote rodeo and western culture, all the while learning how things are done in your neck of the woods. Being Miss Rodeo Montana is the first step to winning the crown of Miss Rodeo America. I feel I could really make a difference in the world of rodeo. I hope to make you all proud as I travel the scenic and historic lands of our home state, Montana.
As my Grampa Kline used to say,

“Too-da-loo!”
